Weekend Vaccination Rates in the United States

We delivered more than 4 million doses of vaccine on Friday, and it's a measure of how well we're doing that this seems a little disappointing. Shouldn't we be up to 5 million by now? 6 million? Come on!

Anyway, here are the numbers at this point: 33% of the adult population has been fully vaccinated; 50% have received at least one dose; and we have administered 80 doses of the vaccine per 100 adults.

My guess is that when vaccination is opened up to kids, we'll see a whole lot more.

People who, for whatever reason, aren't willing/able to take the time to find a clinic and wait in line (and this seems to be REALLY variable, from some places that are very disorganized to others where both the search and wait were negligible) will be willing to do so for their kids, at which point they'll also get their jabs.

Remember this isn't an infinite growth cycle - there are only do many arms. Maybe there isn't anymore infrastructure buildout happening OR like you suggested we are in a slowing waiting for the kids (which is probably the case).

I'm waiting to see an impact on infection rates. Sadly infection rate numbers in most parts of the US are still worse than they were through all of 2020 up to November.

How many more vaccines could of been administered if the J&J vaccine was not on pause? Santa Clara county, CA has the infrastructure in place to administer more dose's than they have on hand. I bet this is the case across much of the country. I think this is a HUGE reason the vaccinations were not as high as possible.

Here in Virginia they waited until yesterday to open up vaccinations to anyone who is a resident of Virginia. An emergency message was pushed to phone this morning alerting folks to this along with the URL for vacinefinder.org. Some of the huge mass vaccination sites being set up however are still limited to getting category 1 folks vaccinated for now until that wait list is cleared.

Finally they are setting up a mass vaccination site in Tysons, VA in the old Lord & Taylor store, it will be open starting Tuesday but appointments reserved for category 1 until the waitlist of about 14,000 or so is whittled down.

Supply increases will come stepwise, as high-volume production facilities are brought online and qualified. Take-up rates are likely to gradually decrease, though, as we finish vaccinating the eager, and must persuade the hesitant and reluctant.
