Welcome to my new blog. After four years at the Washington Monthly and 12 years at Mother Jones, I've decided to go full circle and return to blogging at my own site. This gives me a little more freedom to post when I want and a little more freedom to say what I want without worrying about how it might reflect on others.
Aside from that, things will be pretty much the same as always. I mostly blog about policy—I call it "policy lite"—but also about anything else that catches my eye. As always, there are lots of charts and, every Friday, plenty of cats. So settle in and enjoy.
Test- not wanting to either reply or to I use my WordPress identity!
Yay! Friday cat blogging will continue, so we do not have to say farewell to Hilbert and Hopper. And, of course, we get to have your posts as well. ????
Well, here we are then. Are you going to have email subscription as well as RSS?
WP not a favorite
Just discovered your new site and already there are 85 comments ahead of mine. I enjoy your work at Mother Jones (and thanks for all of it), but I like the group of commenters you've attracted there almost as much. Looking forward to reading you here, as well as commenting and reading the comments of others.
Two thoughts: This pale orange text is really hard to see. What's wrong with black?
And: Please add formatting to the comment box. I don't know if any HTML is allowed, but I'd rather have a button for italics, bold, links, etc.
Wonderful news to see that you are at your own site, Kevin!
Yeah, I don't see any place to "join" or "register," but others in this comment section are referring to registration as if it's an option and they're trying to decide if they want to do it or not. This is my second comment on this thread and my name, etc, is not pre-filled in, so for now it looks like we sign in every time we comment. WordPress has thousands of ways to modify the function and appearance of a website, so maybe Mr. Drum will get around to fine-tuning things as time goes on.
Thanks Larry! I thought it was just me.
Can anyone tell me how I can join the site and set up a profile? Or do we sign in with every comment?
And now I see that my reply appears before the comment I'm replying to. That ain't right.
Glad you’re back on your own. But may I point out that we 20th century blog reading holdovers may find light orange on white a bit hard to read? It’s good to see your entries are text to speech enabled, and it bodes well for graph readability.
Hope this brings back your Calpundit roots!
Hurrah!
cool!
Bold? Italic?
Welcome Cal Pundit. Long time no see.
tool a look at the Yosemite photos. Reminded me that you should make plans, if the park is open, to go after this weeks storm. Might get some good photos of Yosemite in the snow. On a ski trip there we wandered around at night in full moon light making the snow sparkle. Coyotes circling us.
Another winter trip if the high is over the Great Basin, is to feel the warm air fall at Yosemite Falls. Also! Frazzle Ice!!!
Very happy to see this here. Hopefully your drug problem 😉 will not interfere too much with your future activities.
Good luck!

Also, glad to see that you'll continue blogging.
Thank you Kevin, for all the work you have done over the years. I recommend you to my conservative family members as an alternative to their echo chamber. I have subscribed to MJ because of you.
I was hoping it would be calpundit again. Great to have your site up. Another possible factor affecting COVID severity is vitamin D levels. This might have complex intersections with race, geography, industrialized vs agrarian economies, and even season.
Grats!
Hi, Kevin. I'm glad to see you starting a new venture. Keep up the good work, and stay healthy
Longtime reader, seldom commenter here. Nice to attend your sitewarming.
Just a trial gallop.
Oooh.. I like the "Data" tab. Nice to have all the links in one place.
I have to admit that I really like your Mother Jones columns -- you're one of the few political bloggers who actually sanity checks the math behind political stories.
So, I'm really happy that you're continuing to blog!

Hmmmm. I need to register here.
Looking forward to following your new blog...
Now that I've looked around the site a bit I'm here to say I love the Photos tab.
No comment, just want to follow Kevin here.
