What is BleachBit?

Donald Trump is still obsessed with Hillary Clinton:

For chrissake. Will anyone ever have the guts to tell Trump that BleachBit is just an ordinary piece of open source disk management software that was used by Platte River Networks, Hillary's email hosting company?

I know it doesn't matter anymore. But how is it possible for Trump to be ignorant of this for eight years?

No kidding, I want to know how anyone who graduated from an Ivy school could be as ignorant on a wide range of topics as Trump is. My grade school grandkids know more than he does about a range of topics.

      1. memyselfandi

He may have graduated from an ivy league college but he wasn't eligible for entrance as a freshman, Standards to transfer in as a junior were non-competitive and pretty much anyone wanting to could.

First, no one can correct Trump. He's a stable genius.

Was he slurring the 'United States'? It sounds like his aphasia is acting up again.

    1. bethby30

Mr, Ed was a stable genius.

I seriously believe that Trump’s prefrontal cortex is weakening significantly as he ages. His behavior reminds me the behavior of a young man I knew who had injured that area of his brain in a bicycle accident — unable to keep focus, control impulses and emotions, lack of self- awareness. In 2016 Trump was much better able to fake being rational and he was able to give speeches that hit on his base’s main issues. Now all he does is whine about how he is so badly mistreated, digress into bizarre comments like his Hannibal Lecter idiocy, etc. He starts out intending to address a topic his base wants to hear about but immediately veers off topic to talk about himself. Here he starts out intending to talk about crime and Kamala Harris’s records (well, lie about it) but quickly loses his train of thought and starts talking about his $$$ then whining about how badly he is treated — worse than Lincoln and Jackson were treated. There is a reason the far fewer people show up at his rallies and many of those who do leave in the middle of his speech, uh, rant.

I don't understand why the national media dismisses all the weird stuff Trump says--the Hannibal Lecter stuff very much included--as either not worth commenting on or trivial quirks a la "That's our Trumpie! No telling what that crazy populist will say next to his crowds of adoring fans!" But the reality is that Trump is both quite dim and actually a nutter.

It's deeply unsettling that Trump frequently speaks publicly about a fictional cannibal serial killer from novels four decades ago who hasn't been depicted in movies for two decades as if said cannibal were a real person; it's all the more disquieting that Trump refers to the character as both great but also late which is a sort of confounding category error (fictional characters of course cannot "die"--Lolita, Jay Gatsby, Hamlet, the Sherlock Holmes, Darth Vader are not "dead" in any meaningful sense of the word, even if they did die "onscreen") and also, as far as I can gather from the internet, not even "true" of fictional Lecter.

The national media take on all of this is that he couldn't possibly believe the things he says because he--a former and quite possibly future president, who is moreover a National Figure with Millions of Followers--couldn't be that dumb/delusional/crazy.

And yet he keeps saying things that sure sound like senile ramblings that bear no other explanation.

8 years ago he used to call it "acid wash", then he called it "bleaching". In the last few months he's finally remembering it's called "Bleach-Bit".

He can, in fact, learn. He just needs a few years for it to sink in.

  3. Josef

Someone explained it to him like he's an idiot. Which he is. "Basically it's acid" is something a stupid person would say. He probably really thinks it is acid. "She bleachbit". Does he think bleachbit is a verb?

    1. KenSchulz

Well, it’s the fault of whoever tried to explain it to him, because they didn’t start with “Sir, …” and then insert his name every third word. They should have known he would immediately stop listening.

  4. MattBallAZ

Addressing the real concerns of swing voters! Just ask the Post and their comments about grieving families giving him a boost.

  5. varmintito

    This is motivated ignorance.

It's a variant of Sinclair Lewis's quip that "it's hard to get a man to understand something when his livelhood depends on him not understanding it."

    1. aldoushickman

That gives him too much credit. Remember his phone call with Ukraine, in which he tried to shake them down to get a bogus investigation into Biden announced? The *other* thing he ranted about was demanding the Ukrainian government track down Clinton's email server, which he thought (a) was a real, physical thing, and (b) was in Ukraine, for some reason.

There were no supporters or crowds or cameras on him at the moment--he wasn't bringing up dumbass conspiracy theories because they were useful to him, he brought them up because he's an idiot.

In short: he really is that dumb, and really is that divorced from reality. He'd probably be more successful and more effective if he was strategically "believing" things useful to his livelihood, but decade-old nonsense about Clinton's emails is not going to help him in this election.

        1. aldoushickman

Not in the way he meant or understood. The investigation made clones of the original; Trump had some hazy idea that the "server" was in Ukraine for some reason. Was that the original piece of hardware from casa del clinton? Backups? Cloned hard drives? Some fraction of the data from the email traffic? Trump certainly didn't know, and moreover lacked the interest or capability to know the distinctions anyway.

It's been said that the windmills of his mind* killed all the birds in his brain.

When he blocks on a word it's tough to figure what he must have meant. Like this:

“I’m for a small slice as a slice. You want to have every kind of a car imaginable,” Trump said. “You want to have gas-propelled cars, you want to have hybrids, you want to have every kind of a car imaginable. They want to go all electric, and there’s no way you can ever load them up. They call it loading them, you can’t load them.”

Trump says enough crazy stuff in any given week to sink any normal politician. But he overloads everyone's circuits, and the media doesn't bother to even report on much of it. I suppose if they did, it would be non-stop Trump news all day long. Which is bad too, since he just gets more coverage and attention.

I just hope Trump is such an aberration that no one else can pull off what he has. You may need to be a genuine narcissistic sociopath with a special talent to dupe people to be able to do what he does. I can’t say in my personal life that I have ever known someone like that. (Or maybe they duped me, haha.)

    1. KenSchulz

But the real problem is that when media reports something, they so often clean him up; editing and paraphrasing his word salad into something more presentable. It’s plain dishonest; they are putting their thumbs on the scale. It only gets reported straight when it goes completely bonkers, like the Hannibal Lecter/shark/battery weirdness.

  8. KenSchulz

He was also rehashing Hunter Biden’s laptop, and Covid restrictions, and government ‘censorship’ of Covid misinformation on Facebook. He didn’t actually forget who he’s running against, he just can’t let go of a grudge. Harris needs to keep on focusing on the future, and reminding audiences that he’s stuck in the past — not the actual past, the one in his mind.

  9. FrankM

Sigh....In case you haven't noticed, none of his supporters care what nonsense comes out of his mouth. They all think it's pure genius. No amount of reporting will change that. They could fact-check every stupid thing he says and report how idiotic he is in every paper, on every news show and in every kind of media available. I won't change one single mind. His supporters are completely impervious to facts and logic.

    1. Altoid

The true believers are all sure they're completely in on whatever game they think he's playing on the media folks he talks to (talks at) and on all those elites he talks about. That's how he sets it up, and it's very seductive. I had a boss years ago who did that on a very small scale. Once you figure out how it works you're never as tempted by anyone else who does it, but figuring it out is the hard part and it doesn't necessarily feel good when you do.

  10. Dana Decker

Huh? I thought BleachBit involved prying chips from the circuit board, extracting the wafers, and subsequently pouring sodium hypochlorite over them.
And now Kevin tells us BleachBit is merely software! What a surprise.

  11. bad Jim

The local classical station plays opera on Sunday night at 9. Tonight's show featured baritones, lots of Figaro. I imagine Trump's fans bob along to his improvisations much as I do to Italian librettos.

Or, as painedumonde so eloquently said, ↑( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)↑

  12. jte21

"BleachBit is just an ordinary piece of open source disk management software that was used by Platte River Networks"

Aside from "is" and "was", none of those are words that Trump can remotely comprehend. That's why he appears to be under the impression that they *literally* like poured bleach into the server or something to erase the data. He's a phenomenally, phenomenally stupid man. As they say, you don't know anyone as stupid as Donald Trump. You just don't.

Also, beach is a base, not an acid, but who gives a shit at this point. His *brain* has been bleached.

    1. iamr4man

Trump and his minions don’t understand that the analogy that was used to explain how something works isn’t actually what happened. So they think actual bleach was used. Likewise, I’m sure they think there is an actual “cloud” in which their information resides. I actually think there are a lot of people like Trump.

This discussion is Fake News -- It makes liberals feel better about themselves to dump on Trump.

Here are some facts: Bleach-bit does not delete ANY e-mails

The Bleach-bit web site makes it clear that the primary selling point is that it can "Delete your private files so completely that even God can't read them" But on an e-mail server, you FIRST have to manually delete the e-mails.

After you deleted the e-mails to "save space" You would run Bleach-Bit ONLY if you wanted to remove all traces of the deleted emails. Bleach-bit ONLY PURPOSE in this case is to wipe the space previously occupied by those e-mails so that vestiges of the e-mails can never be recovered. This is not standard procedure.

Using Bleach-Bit IS equivalent to dissolving printed e-mails in acid. Bleach would be less effective than Bleach-Bit as most actual bleach it wouldn't remove all traces of ink from paper.

If you ONLY want to save disk space, there are a lot of other, less destructive ways of freeing disk space, and again, Bleach-bit doesn't touch e-mails unless you've deleted them first.

    1. ColBatGuano

"Using Bleach-Bit IS equivalent to dissolving printed e-mails in acid."

Trump, is that you? Did a big, strong, man, with tears in his eyes, tell you this?

    2. memyselfandi

" This is not standard procedure. " Actually, of course it is standard procedure when decommissioning a server. Which is what happened here.

    3. pjcamp1905

Completely erasing, well, pretty much everything is exactly what happens in a high security environment.

Trump's asinine, narcissistic, offensive, boorish, childish behavior every days provides multiple opportunities to dump on him. You want that to stop? Pick a candidate who isn't a goddamn idiot.

    4. pjcamp1905

BTW, pro tip -- anyone who uses the term "fake news" is prima facie a moron.

Since I'm sure you will struggle with it, prima facie means "accepted as correct until proven otherwise."

    > But how is it possible for Trump to be ignorant of this for eight years?

He insisted on steam launchers for aircraft carriers.

    1. aldoushickman

Because with the electric, with the electric--on a boat, in water (big water, wide water)--you have the problem of if the electric gets in the water and then it's all over folks, it's all over and very sad. And then also (and nobody asks about this, nobody asks about it aside from Trump, because I have a great brain and a great heredity my uncle genius at MIT and I'm also genius although not at MIT but I do have beautiful golf courses) what if there is a shark? And the electric on the one hand and the shark on the other, so which one do you choose?

So, that's why I said it has to be steam, and all the generals, the ship-generals, the looked at me and said "Sir, sir, we never thought of that before."

  15. Boronx

For a second I thought an interviewer had actually forced Donny to explain why he thought bleach would cure covid, but alas he's just doing his usual blather.
