Here is J.D. Vance on the fentanyl crisis:
Thanks to these policies that Biden and other out-of-touch politicians in Washington gave us, our country was flooded with cheap Chinese goods, with cheap foreign labor— and in the decades to come, deadly Chinese fentanyl. Joe Biden screwed up, and my community paid the price.
Let's roll the tape:
When Donald Trump took office, he was bequeathed a fentanyl death rate of just under 30,000 per year. That's a lot!
When he finally retired to Mar-a-Lago at the end of his term, he left Joe Biden a fentanyl death rate of about 70,000 per year. That's a lot more.
So who exactly is it that screwed up and did absolutely nothing about addiction deaths for four years?
Ahh, yes, the 'fuck your feelings' crowd is of course lying about this, too.
Why are you surprised? They're rarely telling the truth anymore.
In that vein, you know what big lie really struck me from Vance's speech? He conveniently left out that all those manufacturing jobs got exported because the manufacturers themselves wanted to go where labor was cheapest, and their lobbyists paid big, big bucks to get the policies that let them do it.
Not to mention that the manufacturers were being told by the financial world that their only purpose in life was to keep increasing profits every quarter or they'd be targeted by raiders and short sellers, and never mind about the US-based jobs or any other feel-good crap like that. And Vance was part of the financial world that did that.
Yep. This was the predictable result of deregulatory conservative policies championed by Republicans and supported by centrist Democrats who wanted to shed their association with anything that smacked of "socialism" like labor protections, unions, protectionism, and all that.
Who was buying cheap Chinese imports? Vance's hillbilly kin, who would raise hell if they had to pay a nickel more for an imported waffle iron.
Exactly. You want to see inflation? See what it would cost to buy your kids clothes and shoes or a bicycle if they were all made domestically.
Until, of course, the Felon’s silly tariffs kick in.
"Look for ... the union label ... when buying a shirt, dress or blouse..."
No member of Trumps cult would question anything that comes out of the mouth of Trump or a Trump loyalist. They can lie till the cows come home and it'll be believed.
And the thing is, they *know* it's bullshit. It's just that the feeling of group solidarity and being part of the mob that comes with cheering along with the nonsense outweighs the knowledge that, ultimately, you're being had.
Also, it pwns libs to say that you now believe the world is flat because Trump said something about that.
Very much this! It’s BELONGING. And that it’s lies, and even that it will hurt them, doesn’t matter. As long as they BELONG (and those Others are hurt MORE).
His community?? He probably hasn't been in that community for quite awhile.
Never was part of that community, movie notwithstanding.
he grew up in dayton, oh.
he's just an even more oleaginous turd than greg dulli of thr afghan whigs.
Appalachia's fentanyl problems have their roots in the oxy addiction crisis of the early 2000s. We're just watching the consequences as addicts were pushed to switch their drug of choice. Perhaps nitazenes, which can be more potent than fentanyl, will become more common.
Who knows what's next. I'm sure some drug lord has AI working on discovering the next synthetic opioid.
There is just something about J.D. Vance.
He has this air of, oh, what is the English? gerbil advantage.
Like he could be drinking water out of a tube amid his chewed up kleenex and cardboard with violent, aggressive enthusiasm and attack a hamster and there's nothing you can do about it.
it's not important, but JD looks like he uses eyeliner. Did bronze-raccoon Trump pick him so that they could both talk about man-makeup on the campaign trail?
What is the deal with wingnuts and the Mary Kay makeup kit they stole from their sister in high school?
Matt Gaetz's botox job is way sexier than Vance's eyeliner. IMHO
He looks like the Chester Gould edition of Frankenstein.
You're neglecting to take into account that Republicans blame Biden for everything bad that ever happened while he was in either Congress or the VP as well. So in their minds, he's responsible for the whole run up to 30,000 deaths per year.
As far as what Trump did, the biggest increases in his term came after Covid, and Republicans don't hold Trump responsible for anything Covid-related either. It's how they can claim Trump's economy was fanastic; they aren't counting anything after the end of 2019.
