Consumers Are Feeling More Comfortable These Days

Langer Research Associates emails me a steady stream of surveys every morning, mostly about the political topic du jour. Today, however, they sent me this:

How are you feeling these days? More comfortable? Ready to go out and spend lots of money? I am, if I could just think of something useful to spend it on.

I'm definitely planning to spend more money soon. My post-second shot wait period is winding up, and I'm dying to take a short vacation somewhere with a beach. I'm also eager to have a sit-down restaurant meal again.

Shot number two for me on Saturday. I feel like in another month or so the 4th wave will be tapering off and things will start to seem close to normal. The company I work for is in the travel industry. Back in March and April of last year our revenue fell off to about 5% of 2019 levels. But now we are actually back up above 2019, so travel is definitely picking up and things are looking pretty good for my company again. So yes, I am starting to feel some confidence.

Is accelerated economic recovery out of the mass vaccination period bad news for Joebiden Infrastructure plan passage?

Finally, I'm set to get my first shot on Tuesday. I am one of the luckies who have done well since the beginning of the pandemic. I had thought about replacing my 11 year old car but since I'm full time telework for now, I put a bunch of $$$ into fixing the car and will hold onto it a bit longer.

Instead I'm thinking of replacing my 11 year old TV, maybe some nice comfy chairs & table for the deck and a comfy recliner for my home office/spare bedroom.
