Overall, things are still getting better. Memorial Day weekend has generated some reporting artifacts, but things will probably be back on trend next week.
Biggest problem--slow down in vaccinations. The Northeast basically vaccinated themselves out of their last outbreak, and COVID numbers have really dropped there. The Sunbelt--outbreaks seem to be following last year's trends...and if vaccinations do not pick up, I'd expect an outbreak over the summer like last year. Maybe more of them should try covid lotteries instead of playing games with covid

While I did sign up for the local lottery with my two shots done months ago, I do feel that I already won a lottery. My wife works in a facility where 40 plus of 150 patients died in a few months. Fear was palpable.
Damned impressive work by the scientists to provide such lifesaving vaccines in such short order, and industry/ government getting them into arms so quickly. My family are all vaccinated and some are back on the road again.
Thanks to these heroes for their labors.
At first I thought the Philippines dropped a ~115,000 "catch-up" yesterday. Turns-out the folks at Johns Hopkins have yet again added another country into their spreadsheet and done so in alphabetical order rather than adding at the end... And again the country they have added (Kiribati) has no COVID-19 deaths reported.
It would seem the ~115,000 "catch-up" was Peru's, which if it wasn't actually some sort of glitch, vaults them far and away to the worst cumulative death rate at 5689/million.

thanks for this....
In a proper world, the US would be pumping our PPE and shipping it everywhere, along with excess vaccines....
Biden is doing some, but so much more is needed.
When going to update my New York spreadsheet, it would seem the folks at Johns Hopkins have added two more counties/whatnot to the US spreadsheet, again doing so in alphabetical order rather than tacking-on at the end.
NYC is at 3983 cumulative deaths/million:
Bronx 4633
Kings 4062
New York 2751
Queens 4402
Richmond 3853
