Jeffrey Goldberg has a long piece in the Atlantic today about Donald Trump's enduring contempt for the military. But maybe you're too busy to read the whole thing. So how about just the quotes?
- About the funeral for a soldier killed at Fort Hood: “It doesn’t cost 60,000 bucks to bury a fucking Mexican! Don’t pay it!”
- About the supposedly shaky loyalty of his top officers: “I need the kind of generals that Hitler had.”
- About the Presidential Medal of Freedom: “It's the equivalent of the Congressional Medal of Honor, but civilian version. It’s actually much better, because everyone gets the Congressional Medal of Honor — that’s soldiers. They’re either in very bad shape because they’ve been hit so many times by bullets, or they’re dead.”
- About military service: “Vietnam would have been a waste of time for me. Only suckers went to Vietnam.”
- About the dangers of promiscuous sex: “It is a dangerous world out there. It's like Vietnam, sort of. It is my personal Vietnam. I feel like a great and very brave solider.”
- About the George Floyd protests: “The Chinese generals would know what to do.”
- About his generals after they resisted shooting protesters: “You are all fucking losers!”
- About his generals again: “My fucking generals are a bunch of pussies. They care more about their alliances than they do about trade deals.”
- About Joseph Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff: “That guy is smart. Why did he join the military?”
- About John McCain: “He’s not a war hero. He is a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.”
- About lowering the White House flag to half staff after McCain's death: “What the fuck are we doing that for? Guy was a fucking loser.”
- About soldiers who volunteered for service in Afghanistan: “I don’t get it. What was in it for them?”
- About a visit to a WWII cemetery in France: “Why should I go to that cemetery? It’s filled with losers.”
- About wounded veterans appearing in parades: “I don’t want them. It doesn’t look good for me.”
- About a wounded veteran singing "God Bless America" at the installation ceremony of Mark Milley as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff: “Why do you bring people like that here? No one wants to see that, the wounded.”
It doesn't matter any more. The MAGA have long since been inoculated against the Trump foot-in-mouth virus.
Worse, lots of veterans will vote for him. They learned to accept being treated like poop by superior officers?
And let’s not forget how quote No. 1 shows Trump’s true attitude towards Hispanic Americans. That brings back not-so-fond memories of me living in Dallas in the 1990s. ….. And again, the target of that quote, American citizens of Hispanic heritage, will give the Orange Slime way more support than he deserves from Hispanics. Maybe some of us are trying too hard to “act white”? (Which is an insult to white people who aren’t racist)
Jeffrey Goldberg was an IDF prison guard.
I think the only thing left that could be done is to flat-out call Donald Trump a traitor. No mealy-mouthed euphemisms...call him a traitor.
Then trot out this list. Maybe there's a few +Trump voters who will switch to +someone else or +Harris.
Otherwise, no one cares, because they already know all this and are still voting for Trump.
Hating America and wanting to burn it to the ground to own the libs is really "edgy" and "outside-the-beltway" thinking for a lot of voters. They are sick fucks, but they somehow retain citizenship privileges.
And call him a liar. None of this he's dishonest b.s. He's a liar!
Here's a list of veterans who lost presidential elections: McGovern, Carter, Mondale, Dukakis, Bush Sr., Dole, Gore, Kerry, McCain. Being a veteran is clearly no advantage.
If I were the Dems, I’d turn this list into an ad and spend a billion dollars to run it all over the place.
You think that'd work, but if people didn't give a shit 9 years ago when he said he enjoyed grabbing women by the p*ssy, what makes you think any of this is out of bounds now? Democrats are already as disgusted as they can be by this stuff and his base just dismisses it as fake news. They literally won't believe he said any of it and you can't convince them otherwise. It won't move the needle whatsoever, as sorry as I am to say that.
MAGA -- It's a cult, not a political movement.
+1
The target for this wouldn’t be hardcore republicans but the softcore ones. My mother is one. She’s married to a hardcore republican and she goes with the maga flow just to keep life simple. But, to my surprise, she recently said trump is crazy and that he’s going to lose. If she sees this list on a regular basis, I think she’ll stay home and watch tv rather than go out and vote.
If I were the Dems, I would be running an ad non stop in swing states
"If Donald Trump is elected, Social Security will run out of money in 6 years"
and cite the CFRB which is ironic as they've been on the bandwagon to cut Social Security since their inception.
That's the problem, there are too many things. A specific event can drive home a message. Many events becomes background noise.
Not too busy, but I'm already disgusted reading the fifteen things you listed. Besides, listening to Trump always disgusts me. He's a vile excuse for a human being. To paraphrase Lewis Black, Trump spent the last forty years being the worst human being. Though I think that's being generous. He's probably been the worst since his adolescent years.
Wrong. Since he was 5 years old and threw rocks to hit the baby in the yard next door. Reported in WaPo October 2016, retold in Haberman's "Confidence Man."
Figures I was too generous with my estimate.
“I need the kind of generals that Hitler had.” You need someone like Claus von Stauffenberg. Though he was only a colonel. 😜. I think most of his Generals and high ranking Nazi officers abandoned Hitler in the end. Mostly in an attempt to save their necks from the gallows.
When Chief of Staff General Kelly explained that Hitler’s generals tried to kill Hitler three times, Trumps response was “no they didn’t”. When he pointed out Field Marshall Rommel was forced to commit suicide for his participation in the plot, Trump did not know who Rommel, aka “the desert fox” was.
He's so ignorant about everything. Unfortunately he has no desire to learn anything either.
It's hard to believe, but Republicans are trying to block overseas military ballots from being counted. They wanted to set them aside, just in case they needed to block them from being counted.
The GOP wants to win at all costs, folks on active duty abroad be damned.
Leaving aside how disgusting the remark is, it’s really quite funny that he wishes his generals were more like Hitler’s, given that:
A) Some of Hitler’s generals tried assassinating Hitler, and
B) Hitler’s generals lost the war.
He doesn’t even do Nazi sympathizing very well. The man sucks at everything.
He thinks he knows everything. He knows practically nothing. That's why he surrounds himself with yes men, lickspittles and sychophants.
Yeah, but how many of those do we have audio or video of? Offhand, I think he only said 3, 5, and 10 in public. His campaign is denying all the other ones.
Obedient subjects of capitalist authority deployed to Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq. The Americans who volunteered to join ISIS and the IDF and traveled to West Asia were committed to killing for the their religious and/or ethnic ideology.
I came across a disturbing video. A man interviewed Trump discussing his virtues!!!! Comments were disabled of course. The man has no virtues what so ever. The myth of Trump is strong with the most extreme of his cult.
Man, I hate narcissists. Trump denigrating everyone who passes through his tiny brain is only one of the reasons.
