Every single person survived a huge fireball on a Japan Airlines jet

This is unbelievable. Every single person aboard this Japan Airlines jet survived the crash shown in this video.

(The plane it crashed into was not so lucky. Five out of six coast guard crew members were killed.)

From the video of the passenger evacuation, it does not look like the A350 was burning profusely until much later. Probably the fireball at impact was the Coast Guard Dash-8 going up. The preliminary evidence is that the Dash-8 was instructed to hold short of the runway and apparently did not do that.

Miracle that the almost 400 passengers evacuated, or it could have been another Tenerife.

Reminds me of USAir 1493 in Feb. 1991 at LAX on runway 24L.

After that, I always put my landing lights on when taking the active or crossing a runway, even during the day.

The A-350 is constructed from carbon composites. Good to know it was up to withstanding crash loads and fire long enough for everyone to successfully evacuate.

I was on a flight once that was diverted for "smoke in the cockpit." What amazed me was that all the passengers remained calm, while some of the cabin crew were visibly agitated. That crew in Japan apparently did its job well.

I wonder if cultural differences might exist on how a set of passengers might react in this situation? Japanese vs Americans vs Central Americans vs East Europeans. No way to tell though. I sort of think Americans might not do so well, getting their carry one for example.

This was EXACTLY my wife's reaction - she thought people in the US (or enough) might have panicked and started a freakout.
It is pretty damn amazing, that everyone lived from the JAL plane

I would be less concerned about American's panicking more than folks from other countries or cultures. More worried about not listening to the flight crew's instructions, especially the instruction to leave their "precious" belongings on board and just exit the aircraft.

But against that notion there's the successful evacuation, without panic, of Flight 1549 when it crash landed in the Hudson River.
