Hilbert seems distraught.

Oh, Hilbert knows. He knows where every creature of interest is, particularly when it's that close to him. He'd know even if he seemed to be asleep. Just look at the exasperated Jack Benny face!

Hilbert doesn't appear to feel threatened, & Charlie is just content to have a boon companion & responsrible human caretakers.
Although there may have been a touch of sibling rivalry when Hopper asserted herself. Wonder if Hilbert misses her.
