Friday Cat Blogging – 26 March 2021

Here are the furballs, staring intently at something outside. Probably a stray leaf or something. Sadly, this display of domestic comity ended as it usually does, with some lickey-lickey from Hilbert followed by some bitey-bitey and then a quick escape.

"Here are the furballs, staring intently at something outside."

Who's to say that that isn't their version of Friday World Blogging?

    Hilbert: "Mouse."
Hopper: "I disagree. Clearly, that's a cuddly, yummy little Titmouse bird."
    Hilbert: "Tail."
Hopper: "Oh, I see. I stand corrected, this is just a field mouse. Tails?"
    Hilbert: "Heads."

Ah, the stare of the cat! Last weekend, I watched "The Shadow of the Cat" on the Svengoolie show. A cat witnesses the murder of its mistress, and the perps become obsessed that the cat saw them do it. Well, who's Tabitha going to tell?? So they and various relatives try to kill the cat, and in so doing, each of them dies. Cat leads police to where the body is buried.

It all points up the unnerving effect of a cat's gaze, and its inscrutable expression. The characters were allegedly motivated by the cat (they told themselves) but actually were driven by their own guilt. The cat's judgmental eyes brought it all out.
