J.D. Vance has been running for vice president less than two weeks and has already racked up an impressive list of recently uncovered greatest hits:
- Suggested that parents should get more votes than people without children.
- Said Kamala Harris is part of the community of "childless cat ladies" who want to make the country as miserable as they are. He later explained himself by saying he didn't actually have anything against cats.
- Went on at length about the prospect of George Soros filling 747s full of (mainly) Black women who want to fly out of Ohio to get abortions. Said he was sympathetic to arguments this should be banned.
- Became the target of a meme that he had fucked a couch in his youth. It is unclear how or why this started.
- Wrote the foreword for a book by the head of the Heritage Foundation's ultra-right-wing Project 2025, which the Trump campaign is desperately trying to distance itself from.
- Praised a book written by a right-wing conspiracy theorist that calls leftist protesters "unhumans" who want to kill anyone who has more than they do.
J.D. Vance is a very strange guy. I'm not sure how well this is going to play in the ol' heartland.
The weirdest thing to me is that Vance dismisses the possibility that anybody might have any concerns aside from propagating their genes.
I think the weirdest thing, though not highly publicized, was that he was put on the ticket immediately after the shooting and his inclusion doesn't make any sense. Well, it does if you consider that it indicates the strength of the Christian Right, their insistence on Project 2025, and their disdain for Donald Trump. After considering that odd combination of things, everything else follows neatly. Trump continually says, "I'm not one of you." Vance says, "I'm not one of you. I'm connected" and Democrats are wondering what is going on. I think the Christian Right has perhaps performed a coup, though Bernie, er Donald, is still up and walking around.
He became friends with Rod Dreher, that's how he got weird. And Dreher is one seriously fucked up, out and out weird dude as his writing and divorce from a few years ago demonstrated. As one person wrote about Dreher on Reddit "I'm gay enough to be able to spot a closet homosexual." Some people are saying the same about Vance (or perhaps once he had such impure thoughts). Birds of a feather.
Vance also started hanging out and getting praise from Tucker Carlson and we all know how Mr. Testicle Tanner is pretty far out there too.
What Vance also is is a converted Catholic and those are also weird people and I say as a Catholic. Because I was born into the faith and know that it is as much a lifestyle and a culture as it is a faith. But those who convert like to think they're more Catholic than the Pope himself or they do so for "political" reasons (Vance may be that as well although in Ohio it shouldn't matter) or think they're better Catholics than those who have been Catholic all their lives or think it's a "cool" conservative faith. These are people I don't care to deal with either because their understanding the faith is so superficial, like Vance himself.
I will say this: I don't Vance is being entirely cynical. I think since the late teens, since he became famous, he's been on a path towards being a weirdo for the reasons I mentioned and now it's basically in full flower. Enjoy!
P.S. - I'll bet good money there's a "baby farm" idea out there he's spoken about.
