Alabama state workers already get Jeff Davis' birthday off. And Confederate Memorial Day. And R E Lee's birthday (celebrated on MLK day!)

Yep. The point is that if you feel uncomfortable about celebrating Jeff Davis (because maybe, ohhhhhh I don’t know, maybe you love the United States and are not crazy about honoring a man who hated your country and tried to destroy it), you could now celebrate something a little more associated with freedom.

. ….. a man who hated your country and tried to destroy it??? Ohhhhh. Jeff Davis was an earlier version of Trump.

US Dollar 2,000 in a Single Online Day Due to its position, the United qc02 States offers a plethora of opportunities for those seeking employment. With so many options accessible, it might be difficult to know where to start. You may choose the ideal online housekeeping strategy with the help vz-40 of this post.

The more I learn about the South, the more I hate it. Can you imagine being a black person and being told to honor a man who went to war to keep your ancestors enslaved? I’m assuming the blacks down there have an unofficial alternative celebration. If someone who lives there could enlighten us, that would be appreciated.

When I had recently turned 16, living in Virginia at the time, I went to the DMV after school one day to take my driver's test. But when I got there the DMV was closed... for Lee-Jackson Day. I had never heard of it (we certainly didn't get the day off from school). But the state sure wanted to celebrate local heroes, I guess.

When Virginia became one of the last states to create a holiday in honor of Martin Luther King Jr., they did so by merging it with Lee-Jackson Day. I see by Wikipedia that L-J Day was finally eliminated in 2020.

Yes, it was Lee-Jackson-King day for a number of years, and I remember seeing school posters with the heads of the three of them together. Talk about an odd trio!

How is this going to work? A combined holiday on the same day--you just get to pick which one you'd like to call it???

See the example of Virginia above. I live in VA and eventually democrats got a trifecta in 2020 and managed to get rid of Robert E Lee Day so that the holiday celebrated on the third Monday in January is exclusively Martin Luther King Jr Day. But for decades it was officially both. I’m guessing Alabama is going to do the same: make Jefferson Davis Day also Juneteenth so that white and black people can call it different things. Sigh.

If there is a Jefferson Davis Parade or street celebration blocking traffic can a driver drive through them without punishment? Or rip their skin off?

    Asking for a friend.

I guess the house with the Confederate flag, Trump Flag, and or Swastika out in front is probably not celebrating Juneteenth.

"I, _____, appointed a _____ in the Army of the United States, do solemnly swear that I will bear true allegiance to the United States of America, and that I will serve them honestly and faithfully against all their enemies or opposers whatsoever, and observe and obey the orders of the President of the United States, and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to the rules and articles for the government of the Armies of the United States."

That’s the oath sworn by Jefferson Davis in 1828 when he accepted his US Army commission upon graduation from West Point. In my (strongly held) opinion, all other plus or minus considerations about him fade into insignificance. He violated his oath and committed treason against his country. His name should be reviled everywhere in the United States.
