Let's tally up the score so far. Joe Biden's Department of Justice has now secured convictions against two Democrats:
- The president's son, thanks to pressure from Republican lawmakers.
- Robert Menendez, a Democratic senator from New Jersey.
In addition, they have indicted one other Democrat:
- Henry Cuellar, a Democratic member of Congress from Texas.
Meanwhile:
- A federal judge appointed by Donald Trump has dismissed charges he's clearly guilty of, based on reasoning that would make a 1L blush.
- The Supreme Court, with three members appointed by Donald Trump, has quashed two of the four charges against him for trying to overturn a legal election. They then granted him immunity so broad that it jeopardizes the other two charges, very likely killing the entire case.
Now can we talk again about how the federal court system has been weaponized?
I'm starting to think the Republican party is full of hypocrites.
Starting [sic]?
I'm starting to think that a lot of people use sarcasm on the internet.
Close: The Republican Party IS hypocrisy. It is it's defining feature.
Senator Menendez's prosecution, trial, and conviction was a clear case of a government witch-hunt against an obvious innocent person, brought on by a crooked Federal prosecutor, aided by a biased judge, and railroaded by witnesses who were paid or coerced by the government to lie against Menendez. And finally convicted by a jury of political operatives working for the deep state. He should absolutely not resign and should run for reelection.
Oops, sorry I forgot that he is a Democrat, and most of them still believe in the rule of law.
Don't worry, SCOTUS, conducting it's war on corruption (convictions), will find a way to clear him.
Justice for me, not for thee, or in this case, IOKIYAR.
Having said that, hypocrisy is not an issue that breaks through with people who have already turned cynical on politics and justice. Is evidence of blatant hypocrisy going to motivate an ambivalent voter who is leaning towards sitting out the election? Nah. To the contrary, it reinforces their cynicism.
Tangentially, this "law and order" theme that Democrats are sometimes embracing is wrong. It is implied that we enforce all laws, inequitable or not. It should be, "fair laws and just order".

So very good.
????
Meanwhile we pick Repub prosecutors, such as David Weiss, a Trump appointee who has been investigating Hunter.
It's infuriating! We're too nice, trying to bend over backwards for them while they do whatever they please and act entitled to it.
Democrats are always the adults in the room being kicked in the shins by the Republican todlers.
You're right about that!
we got ken starr because janet reno got cowed into not ending the whitewater investigation after robert fiske (also a republican) returned with exculpatory findings in the crusade against bill & hillary clinton.
it's not just that we get gop prosecutors. we get stuck with the worst ones
Obviously President Biden should immediately pardon Senator Menendez.
Isn't the President immune?
Why in the world would President Biden want to pardon Menendez? New Jersey has a Democratic governor and always votes Blue statewide, so there's no effect on the Senate. Why would he want to besmirch himself?
He's being sarcastic.
Obviously.
I stopped making sarcastic comments anywhere on the internet, because there will always somebody mis-interpreting it. You can add /s, but that just looks awful.
What about an emoji like ?????
Everything they accuse the Democrats of is things they've either done or want to do. They then use the accusation as an excuse to do it. You can guarantee that there will be cheating by Republicans this November. January 6th was a trial run and they've learned from their mistakes.
It's Wilhoit's Law in action. Republicans are the In-Group, whom the law protects but does not bind. Democrats are the Out-Group whom the law binds but does not protect. This is the Natural Order of Things according to Republicans, who btw will become VERY upset if you point it out, because it is Uncivil to point out Republican hypocrisy just as it is Unjust for Republicans to be held to the same legal standards as Democrats.

KD, you still on birdsite?
Yep, I see him there fairly often.
is he paying for a bluecheck?
Government agencies are still there and not on bsky or mastodon.
How sad. It's not that hard for someone to set up and run an official US government Mastodon server.
What is a 1L ?
First year law student?
Yes
The SCOTUS decision on presidential immunity and the Cannon decision (unless overturned) will set their own precedents. If Trump wins a second term there will be more law breaking and more decisions exonerating him. Pretty soon administering justice would become quite impossible.
Keep an eye on the Madigan trial in Illinois. Based on the recent Snyder decision, these charges could all get dropped. Then watch the R's go crazy.
