I don't know why, but I didn't expect the Seine to have locks. I thought it flowed freely to the sea. But this isn't so, and we traversed half a dozen locks on our way from Paris to Normandy. Here's one of them at dawn while I was meandering around the upper deck waiting for everyone to get up and have breakfast.
Less imposing but somehow more competent looking than the locks along the Mississippi, which look as if they were built in open defiance of nature.
Is it because the Seine is too steep in descent in some parts to be navigable?
I thought they had removed all of those locks from that bridge…
Cool! Even the San Antonio River has locks ... inside the city!
It's a 92 foot drop from Paris to the sea.
