On Monday I showed you Chimney Rock silhouetted against Saturday's eclipse. Today I'll show you a more conventional view. In fact, I'll show you two Chimney Rocks. The top one is south of Cortez; the bottom one is an official national monument southwest of Pagosa Springs.

I’m curious, the line between the sky and the ground seems artificial, particularly in the upper photo. Is this from over sharpening or just the way it t really is?
OT: way to go Jim Jordan, a..hole…..
The Chimney Rock Nat'l Monument has a number of Ancestral Puebloan structures including a great kiva and a Chacoan great house (outlier) "The Major Lunar Standstill (MLS) is an astronomical event that occurs every 18.6 years. It is visible from Chimney Rock National Monument where the moon aligns between the two sandstone spires: Chimney Rock and Companion Rock. The rising time is visible for a few days throughout the year over the course of three years."
