This reminds me of a visit to the San Diego Animal Safari. We were on a vehicle where the “guide” was pointing out various animals such as rhinos and zebras and the people on the vehicle kept on oohing and ahhing at random squirrels.
Omg. What did you do to Charlie?
One of my New Year’s resolution is to try and stop using that line

I like the above
But I hasten to add that many people in my Photo Contests absolutely hate Squirrels...they capture them, they kill them...they Hates them with enormity.
All of these people are, however, back East, and see Squirrel burrows as absolute dangers to living things...deer, humans mowing lawns, running dogs, riding horses....etc
I used to eat them back in Appalachia but that was 70 or more years ago...I've been a city boy for too long to remember, (but dogs, wild dogs, pit bulls, and the like, I hate more than they hate Squirrels {be chased a couple of times by packs of wild dogs and you'll understand}). Traveller

Out west, the underground squirrels (aka prairie "dogs") provide habitat for the burrowing owls, who live in their abandoned tunnels. And we have plenty of cacti known locally as "horse cripplers."
