Productivity up 1.2% in final quarter of 2024

We're nearly done with 2024 economic statistics. There are just a few stragglers left. Here is labor productivity for Q4:

The trendline allows you to see periods when productivity lagged or grew more than average. The past couple of years have been slightly above trend, though you have to squint a bit to see it. We'll see if Donald Trump can keep it up.

So far there hasn't been any firing of the career civil servants doing this work and the cabinet secretaries involved are the exceptions in that they are as honorable as republicans come. (Assuming republican senators don't kibosh his labor secretary nominee.)

Too bad any wealth created by overall productivity gains stopped tracking anyone's earnings below the 1% with the Reagan administration.

It is amazing how many of our problems can be traced back to the Reagan administration. He was the trend-setter, with Dabya trying to extend the trend (not too successfully, fortunately) and now Trump trying to take it all to fruition.

Lately I have seen a lot of comments deprecating trend lines. I do not share that negative opinion. I think they are very useful tools when used for the purpose they are meant to serve.
