Trump shills should be forced to defend Trump

Back in 2015 Jake Tapper moderated a Republican primary debate in which nearly every question was framed in terms of something "Donald Trump recently said..." And this was back when Trump wasn't even leading in the polls and certainly wasn't a former president.

Today there's way more justification for doing this, but instead it's disappeared as an art form. Why? Trump recently implied, for example, that Gen. Mark Milley should be executed for treason. I'd like to know what Ron DeSantis thinks of this! If I cared what Vivek Ramaswamy thought about anything I'd be curious to know his reaction too.

But nobody asked this at Wednesday's debate. Why not?

Appointments to standing committees require a vote of the full Senate, so if ALL (or all but 10) Republicans were determined to keep the seats from being filled, they could. But the betting seems to be against it because (1) there would be ugly payback and (2) it's not guaranteed that there aren't 10 Republicans who would vote to seat someone anyway.

It's morbid to say it, but, w/r/t ugly payback: at least some senate republicans have to be thinking that now that the reaper has paid a visit to Feinstein, perhaps not too far down the list is a certain Mitch "I've certainly never had a stroke" McConnell.

My understanding was that Republicans on the JC balked at seating an interim replacement for Feinstein if she just stepped back from her duties on the committee mid-session, but did not resign her seat, which she resisted doing. Now that she's gone, however, I think appointing a new Democratic Senator to replace her, if not whoever Newsom chooses, should be pretty straightforward. I don't know how much seniority counts for something like that, but given that it's the Senate, probably a lot.

the worst sin trump ever committed was not showing up at the debates. forget the insurrection. forget the fraudulent business "empire" he built. forget the sexual assault of jean caroll. forget his thousands of lies. forget his embrace of putin and kim. forget his environmental record. forget forget forget. he ignored the junior varsity of the republican party and in their eyes, that was, by far, his gravest sin.

If these idiots were forced to defend Trump they actually would and they'd quickly talk themselves into agreeing that Milley should be, maybe not executed outright, but tried for treason certainly and then executed because that's how we do things in this country.

Normally my response would be who gives a shit what Trump says. He's patently insane. But these idiots are all up there trying to claim they're running against Trump for the GOP nomination while also kissing Trump's ass the whole time (well, except for Christie). So yeah, they should have to respond to every batshit insane thing Trump says and be allowed to either distance themselves from it and explain why it shows he's not fit for the office, or say they're fine with having decorated military advisers who disagree with them killed. That's how Putin operates, after all.
