Marjorie Taylor Greene says that recent hurricanes are the result of weather control technology being wielded (presumably) by the Biden/Harris administration. Josh Marshall comments:
I think normal upstanding Americans are underestimating how rapidly these weather control conspiracy theories are catching fire in the right.

Is this true? I'm not one to let a good joke go to waste—if joke it is—so I checked in with Google Trends:
As you can see, there has been a spike in searches for weather control. It's about as big as recent interest in both Al Pacino and newly crowned Nobel laureate Geoffrey Hinton. It's essentially zero compared to, say, Taylor Swift or the Lakers on any ordinary day. You may decide for yourself if this makes it big or small.
As Mark Twain was fond of saying, "Nobody thinks the government is controlling the weather, but at least Marjorie Taylor Greene is complaining about it.”
It's not the Harris/Biden administration being accused of controlling the weather. "They" are doing it: the faceless oligarchs, no doubt including George Soros, whose puppets reside in the White House.
That's why President Trump could not get access to the controls.
“They” are the Jews who are using their space lasers to control the weather. Marge has already named them
By next week the NYT and Wapo will be offering live updates on Harris and her weather problem roughly 22 hours a day.
In 2025, both papers will suddenly recognize that they shouldnt run these type of stories about a President or current candidate.
By late October, the median undecided voter will be concerned about VP Harris unwillingness to share information about her weather control knowledge. Inflation, recession, hurricanes....
Isn’t it pretty clear who is controlling the weather? I mean, they tell us what it’s going to be days in advance. How do they know? How do they know when a storm or a hurricane is coming days and days before it happens? Isn’t it obvious that the weather people on the news are controlling things?
Ok, I’ll prove it to you. Do they know when an earthquake is coming? Do they tell you days in advance what their intentions are regarding earthquakes? NO THEY DON’T! That’s because they don’t control earthquakes. But they do control the weather. I’ll give you more proof. When I was young they tried to predict the weather and when hurricanes and stuff like that would happen but they were mostly wrong. But nowadays they are almost always right. It’s pretty clear that they learned who to control the weather.
And really, knowing that the weather people are controlling the weather, and knowing that they are part of the liberal elites, doesn’t it make sense that they would try to harm Trump by attacking his people? All I can say is that it’s important that the Secret Service start carrying lightning rods to protect Trump.
Simple minds require simplistic answers.
If we could control the weather, a lightning bolt would have incinerated an orange golfer long ago.
Leaving a dirty tampon in his smoking pants.
Or as Jon Stewart said, if Jews could control the weather they would have made Florida less humid.
So if someone is already plugged into a MAGA news source and thus never does a web search for "weather control", would Google Trends even record them?
I'm not sure you're using a useful metric here.
+1
My father and MIL both believe the weather control thing because of autoplay youtube videos. google search is not a good metric for interest in stuff, hasn’t been for a while now.
Do you know if they actually believe it (rather than believing that they should pretend to believe it because it is their tribe "truth")?
I try not to engage them on these topics, because I’d like to continue loving them.
Not that I needed it, but this is more evidence that contempt, disgust, and cynicism are the proper reactions to all things in America today. I will dutifully vote for democrats across the ballot in a few weeks, but I fully expect the worst outcome. That’s just how awful this country has become.
More evidence of the impending oppression.

Top Republicans are threatening to pull billions of dollars of federal funding from some of the most prestigious universities in the US, stripping them of official accreditation to punish them for allowing pro-Palestinian protests on their campuses.
The Guardian has reviewed a video recording of a meeting in Washington last week between House majority leader Steve Scalise and the powerful pro-Israel lobby group the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (Aipac). In it, Scalise outlined how he planned to unleash a massive attack against universities that fail to squash criticism of Israel.
The offensive, which would be coordinated with the White House should Donald Trump win the presidential race in November, could even threaten the existence of universities, Scalise warned. He talked about revoking accreditation, the system by which higher education institutions are approved and to which the bulk of federal funds are tied.
“Your accreditation is on the line,” Scalise said. “You’re not playing games any more, or else you’re not a school any more.”
Accreditors are not government agencies, so I'm not sure how they'd manage to remove accreditation. Cutting access to government subsidized student loans is possible, though.
Paraphrasing someone else's comment here, but in the face of incontrovertible evidence of global warming, these right-wing type folks are now going all the way from "human activity doesnt impact the climate" to "humans have the ability to completely control the weather". It's an insane whiplash from one extreme to the other.
(Note that either rationale still conveniently gets them off the hook individually their own contributions and actions related to global warming.)
As long as we don't blame the internal combustion engine, they're happy.
Good point!

It seems like an awfully big coincidence that the hurricane always hit Republican states like Florida and Alabama and never Democratic states like California and Vermont.

Au contraire! A pacific hurricane (downgraded to a tropical storm at the time) did in fact pass through SoCal last year. Caused some local flooding and created a large lake for a time in Death Valley of all places.
Al Pacino?
He's been in the news recently after it was revealed he was critically ill with Covid a few years ago and claims to have had a near-death experience.
"Marjorie Taylor Greene says that recent hurricanes are the result of weather control technology being wielded (presumably) by the Biden/Harris administration. "
MTG is not a some transient in a tinfoil hat waving a sign and yelling incoherently on a streetcorner. She sits in the House of Representatives. States and empires have risen and fallen throughout history for all sorts of reasons, from climate change to warfare to disease. The US may be the first major state to collapse because a critical mass of its citizens were too fucking stupid to breathe.
"MTG is not a some transient in a tinfoil hat waving a sign and yelling incoherently on a streetcorner. She sits in the House of Representatives."
Two things can both be true.
Immaturity is not by itself an issue. Power is not by itself an issue. But MTG, a person with the emotional maturity of a 5-year-old sitting in the House of Representatives, is more than just an issue. It's an existential crisis.
It's my decision whether it's big or small? Okay, here's my decision.
What's big is Catch 22 in which the hero, Yossarian, makes repeated, but consistently unsuccessful, attempts to convince others to stop ignoring him while they are ignoring him. Try to get MTG to stop ignoring you. Good luck. But my point is the weather control conspiracy theory is a new and tiny manifestation of that enormous and existentially dangerous phenomenon.
I don't have to ask people if they are a "Catch 22" victim. We are all victims. Instead, I ask people if they are a "Catch 22" perpetrator, but I'm still trying to figure out how to convince people to stop ignoring me while they're ignoring me. Catch 22.
The Democrat weather controls are in the basement of some random pizza parlor out by the highway that gives free pizza to illegal aliens made out of dogs and cats that Democrats want to get married so they can be chopped up and used for illegal pizza.
Everyone knows this.
Is there a betting house that has posted odds on whether Mar a Lago files a claim to FEMA and an over/under for the amount of damage and losses claimed?
Google is a librul front
Real MAGA does not use google.
I am convinced that what they use is actually a google search that filters out certain sites.
Some years ago I worked with a guy (now retired) who believed that the government was controlling the weather for nefarious (unstated) purposes. Obama was President at the time. When I questioned him on it he had no real evidence just conviction based on a couple of weird anecdotes that made little sense to me.
But the baffling thing ... he was a very nice guy, I enjoyed working with him and he was a very good software engineer with several patents and a product to his name.
Having spent many years working with software engineers, one thing I learned is that many of them are bright but they really have no concept of the physical world. To them, if you can put some device that performs a function on a white board - the proverbial black box - it will perform ideally with no constraints of the physics placed upon it.
To them, it's all an abstraction.

The only ppl who think “programmers” are smart are ones who are so dumb it’s painful to talk to them.
Coders don’t know shit about shit outside of how to make bad products that operate inefficiently.
Took me three tries to log into this website while using the proper email address and password to log in.
This is clearly new technology that wasn't available to the Trump administration. He had to rely on that Sharpie, which turned out to be not so reliable for him.
Here's the really bad thing to contemplate - how many people are refusing to evacuate based upon this baloney? How many will die, or put others at risk? Is that actually a feature, not a bug?
Newsguard has looked at the increase in mentions of weather manipulation in articles and social media posts: https://www.newsguardrealitycheck.com/p/flood-of-hurricane-myths-seen-by
Given the way that conservative misinformation travels - via social media posts and suggested YouTube videos - to figure out the actual reach of misinformation, we're going to need to look at total posts and views of those posts, not search data.
Right wing conspiracy theories don't really spread by people doing Google searches.
They start with one or two right wingers with national recognition saying something stupid either on TV or social media (or both), then right wing personalities with huge following even if not widely known outside the right wing bubble spread the message through their own social media, and then suddenly like a virus spreading, MAGA grandpa sees the nonsense in their xhitter, YouTube or FB account and assumes it is true, and voila, you have a veritable zombie army believing the nonsense.
Don't you mean stupidity is trending? Not that it has ever not been trending. Sadly I think stupidity is the only constant in our world lately.
