Welcome to my new blog. After four years at the Washington Monthly and 12 years at Mother Jones, I've decided to go full circle and return to blogging at my own site. This gives me a little more freedom to post when I want and a little more freedom to say what I want without worrying about how it might reflect on others.
Aside from that, things will be pretty much the same as always. I mostly blog about policy—I call it "policy lite"—but also about anything else that catches my eye. As always, there are lots of charts and, every Friday, plenty of cats. So settle in and enjoy.
Discovered you on Mother Jones. Glad to follow you to your new home. Hope your health continues to improve.
I think registration makes sense. Welcome to your new home, Kevin.
New chapter
Hi Kevin,
Like others, been reading you since WM. As a experimental physicist you have always warmed my heart with your love for data (and Excel!). Please don't hesitate to start a Patreon or Substack, or just a tip jar. I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd be happy to contribute. It would be small compensation for what I've learned from you during the years.
Thanks,
Lou
Another long-time reader since Calpundit, Kevin. Looking forward to the rebuilt community over here. Hope comment moderation doesn't become a burden.
I wish you well on your new site. I look forward to cats and graphs.
Congratulations on your new blog. I look forward to following your articles and the cats!
I wish you every success Kevin.
KEVIN DRUM. KEVIN DRUM.
We have followed you!
I see you have a link to Fox News and the Wall Street Journal. Why not a link to The National Review and Breitbart as well? If Fox News needs to be disciplined, linking to their web site isn't going to help with that. Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal is full of misinformation. I don't see the usefulness in reading poorly thought through cruft.
Love your cat pics and stories. Love your photography second. Finally, love your data.
Good luck in your new endeavor. I have been reading you since you were at Washington Monthly and followed you to MoJo.
You are one of the people I read everyday you have something posted.
Thank you!
Happy to follow you here. Will there be an RSS feed?
Darn, were you really with Mojo for 12 years? Followed you there from Washington Monthly, now I feel old(er).
How does one "register" such that I don't have to start over every time I comment?
Dear Kevin, love to you and yours. The somewhat longer list you blogged about tuned me on to Marcy Wheeler and has provided a true look at an investigative journalist. Please keep providing a couple of sentences to explain the graphs so I know what I am looking at.
Hurray and wishing you the best, Kevin. Been following since the Calpundit days as well 🙂
yes, please require registration. Look forward to following you to this site.
I'm delighted you'll still be writing. I've been reading you daily since the Calpundit days, when blogs were just getting started. I've got the new blog bookmarked.
Just to clarify: My assumption is that registration means one must provide a real name and valid email address to WordPress but, once that is done, a nom de plume can be used on the blog. That's what I'm saying should be the case.
I've thoroughly enjoyed the cats, graphs, and thoughts. So glad that, though these will be fewer, I can still look forward to them.
Another followed-from-Washington-Monthly guy. Will follow you here, too.
We love you Kevin.
I've been reading you for at least 15 years
Looking forward to this.
Happy to follow you and the kitties, Kevin.
Followed since CalPundit.
Looking forward to the new venture!
Vel-
How they hell are you?
Still in the 'holler?
Yes to registration for comments and heavy application of moderation and the banhammer. Tentative agreement that Disqus is probably the best currently-available blog commenting platform; better than WordPress generic at any rate (I really liked the old SSC commenting system, but apparently that was hand-rolled).
You've gone from "CalPundit" to "Keven Drum - Redux" on my bookmark bar. Consider that enough change for now.
Mom, Cal Pundit is home! I brought my laundry.
I have read your Mother Jones blog every day for about four years. Your essays are always thought provoking and insightful, and news and pics of Hilbert and Hopper are an uplifting conclusion to the week. My cat Amy sends her love. I wish you well in your cancer treatments and, with you, anxiously await a cure.
Good luck with the new skiff!
