Why is Donald Trump suddenly a TikTok fan?

A brief history of Donald Trump and TikTok:

July 31, 2020: “As far as TikTok is concerned, we’re banning them from the United States.”

March 1, 2024: Trump noted that Republican mega-donor and Club for Growth benefactor Jeff Yass...whom Trump described as “fantastic”...

March 7, 2024: “If you get rid of TikTok, Facebook and Zuckerschmuck will double their business. I don’t want Facebook, who cheated in the last Election, doing better.”

Perhaps Trump's sudden reversal on TikTok makes more sense if you know that Jeff Yass is a mega-billionaire who made his fortune as an early investor in TikTok. He is the single largest donor in the current election cycle and, as Politico noted, "would potentially be a major financial boost to his campaign" if Trump won him over.

Does that clear things up?

Trump posts a $90+ million bond to stay enforcement of the judgment in the second E. Jean Carroll case.

I wonder which sucker agreed to basically donate about $90 million to Trump. I would be shocked if Trump ever pays this back and I suspect that whoever put up the bond doesn't really expect to ever see any of this money again. Even for a billionaire or a country like Saudi, it's a very big bet on Trump being reelected (and "repaying" the debt with favors of some kind).

It was Chubb, a major insurance company. My guess is that they now hold mortgages over about $200 million worth of Trump real estate. When they have to pay out on the bond, they will foreclose to recover their money.

Presumably absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with his new view of TikTok......

A lot of people use TikTok and will be unhappy if it taken away. And a lot of its users are young. Trump doesn’t give a shit either way, of course, but he may see supporting it as a way to court the youth vote.

My darling's TikTok feed, which up to now was just food, kpop, and comedians, suddenly started getting Trump glam videos, showing Donnie and Melania strutting around to cool music.
