President Biden is not especially unpopular, part 1 million

I saw yet another article today about the "deeply unpopular" Joe Biden. You know what that means: I'm going to put up the latest version of The Chart:

Are you tired of seeing this? Tough. I'm going to keep posting it over and over and over until either (a) the nonsense about Biden's unpopularity stops, or (b) Biden's approval rating really does drop significantly below other presidents at the same point in their terms.

The media desperately wants another 4 years of exciting Trump coverage. These stories will only intensify. Book deals, page views, clicks, viewers....theres a business to run here.

      This is so true.

Also, everyone just wants a simple narrative, not facts:
      Biden is unpopular.
      The economy is terrible.
Every young person is burdened by debt and will never own a house.
      Everything is getting worse.
We're all gonna die from climate change (AI, etc.)

Biden is too old and not particularly inspiring. The people in this country are at each others throats. I don’t approve of our political system or it’s participants either. But I’ll still vote for democrats because you have to do something. Maybe stop promising stuff you can’t deliver.

Too old and not particularly inspiring? Joe Biden?

      Yes.

Vote for him? Of course. I'm used to voting for losers. I particularly remember voting for the not particularly inspiring Jimmy Carter.

There may be some advantage in doing it now, so by the time of the elections it will be "old news", even for people that are not following politics closely.

More interesting to me is polling in swing states, Biden v Trump. For example, is the decline in Muslim support in Michigan meaningful for Biden.

      1. middleoftheroaddem

gibba mang - I imagine most disappointed Democratic Muslims in Michigan will stay home, or vote third party, rather than vote for Trump. However, staying home or voting for say Cornel West is still problematic for Biden.

        cmayo -

        - Biden won Michigan by ~ 150,000 votes.
        - The estimate I read is there is between 250,000 and 300,000 Muslims in Michigan.
        - Democrats historically capture, about 75% of the Muslim vote.
        - That means about 200,000 Democratic Muslim votes.

So yes, POTENTIALLY, the Muslim vote could matter in Michigan....that is just speculation at this point. Some polling might be interesting.

Polls right now are irrelevant. One showed over 20% will vote for RFK Jr. Another had TFG beating Biden by 20 points among young people. If you believe that, I've got a bridge to sell you.

Please do keep publishing this Kevin. The media has taken a dive to the right, playing right into the fascists claws. You know, when you say something often enough folks believe it. Just like t-Rump winning the election…

Of course Orange Jesus screaming about banning Palestinians or all Muslims (jihadists), from getting a visa to enter, or revoking all such visas, or whatever batshit stuff he is spewing, that will really bring home the Muslim support for him. There are also a whole lot a Republican leaning Jews who may support Biden because of his positions.

Will any of this really matter in 12 months? I am mostly scared of a younger, somewhat sane Republican getting the nomination if Il Duce is convicted or mortally wounded (politically!). Someone who does not scare the shit out of the more moderate (suburban) voters and who is not an old codger could win.

Will the Trumpist GOP base vote for a ‘somewhat sane’ Republican? Not if Trump doesn’t endorse one, and he won’t. That will more than offset any suburbanites who might support such a candidate (if one even exists). We are past the point where there are any moderate Republican-leaning voters. Even the dimmest now understand that the GOP is no longer the party of Eisenhower and Reagan and Bush. That’s why they voted for Biden last time. Sure, some of those who left the crazy train have been replaced by working class voters who voted for Obama but now wear Viking helmets and have confederate flag bumper stickers on their pickups. But overall, suburbanites who are disgusted by what Trumpists have done to the GOP aren’t going to vote for a Republican because Biden is too old.
